I am so pleased to be moderating the 1:1 Hot Topic here at the Microsoft Partners-in-Learning network. The topic is near and dear to me as the subject of my book “1-to-1 Learning: Laptop Programs That Work” as well as through continual research and consulting for U.S. and international schools. When every student has his or her own mobile device carried wherever they go, enormous possibilities open up in the classroom. L earning then extends beyond the school day, is personalized and continual.
It’s not easy, though, and sometimes not straightforward to achieve success. Plus it falls to the teacher in the classroom to rethink how instruction and learning will take place. It may mean: • Redesigning the classroom space • Rethinking furniture and arrangement • Reexamining assignments • A new approach to classroom management • Constant walking by the teacher around the room while students are working • Openness to student/teacher roles at time switching and morphing • Empowering students more fully • More projects and hands-on student work • Planning with the first question - “what will students be doing”
We’re assembling a “dream team” of practitioners here from around the world who have designed and/or taught in 1:1 classrooms and schools and will be sharing their ideas and thoughts. We’re going to have some monthly themes with this month’s being “1:1 – What does it mean in the classroom?”
Please let us know your comments and ideas as we are all enriched greatly when you join our conversation.
