(In Thailand, dance has been the primary dramatic performing art for centuries. Each region of the country has developed both classical and folk dances steeped in tradition.

The Fawn-Lep, aka the “fingernail dance,” was created in the northern Thai city of Chiang Mai. It’s considered a folk dance that’s been refined into a classical dance drama. Taking slow, deliberate steps, the dancers move their hands and fingers in dramatic gestures.

Though strongly associated with northern Thailand, the distinct and memorable dance is often performed in Bangkok and other cities as a demonstration of the variety of culture within the country as a whole.)
