Teaching Contents VS Teaching Skills

Teaching the contents or teaching the skills? Which one would you opt for? I would go for the second one as I see by teaching the skills to get the contents, students will gain and benefit more. It's also the first step to teaching them to be independent learners. In teaching the skills, it must not be done theoretically as it is not meant to be memorized. Skills should be taught through mastery learning, demonstration, hands-on and application methods. It must also be done often so that students can get used to the skills learnt and develop a habit for long retention. It would be best to create an environment where students could see the importance of applying the skills taught to give them the sense of purpose in their learning (nurturing intrinsic learning motivation).

Kajian = the defined curriculum that students are tested on.
