To ensure systemic, scalable and sustainable sucess and improvement, collaboration is essential. By collaboration I don't just mean working together, but higher order collaborative skills like shared responsibility, substantive decision making, and interdependence. Throughout our work at Imagine Education over the last 10 years, in over 60 countries every single successful project has had good cross sector collaboration and every project that doesn't has failed to scale or move beyond a pilot. Michael Fullan talks about the power of the collective for system change, the Innovative Teaching and Learning Research found that the most important factor for improved learning design was teachers collaborating togther to design curriculum, and young people collaborate every day in all they do (often enabled by technology). It's a no brainer!
